PATRIOTIC FUNDS
(To the Editor.) Sir, —May I ask for a little of your valuable space to make an explanation and an amende? A fortnight ago I asked his Worship the Mayor if it were true that a certain religious organisation was to have a first cut (approximately £3000) out of the Patriotic Funds and the answer being in the affirmative I informed him that my donations would go in another direction, and that f would tell my friends of the position. This evening his Worship has told me that the Provincial Patriotic Fund, which held a flag day today, is a different fund from the Patriotic Fund and will be administered by the mayors of the towns of the province. It certainly is unfortunate that the names are so alike! I trust that "Tweedledum" and "Twcedledee" will not agree to have a battle even if one of them has spoilt the other's rattle. Please accept 10s towards the Provincial Fund as a small expression of my admiration of the "boys."—Thanking you. —I am, etc., ANNE FLETCHER. Masterton. December 8. The sum of 10s enclosed will be handed to the Mayor as a donation to the Provincial Patriotic Fund.—Ed.
