NAVY LEAGUE FLAG

PRESENTATION AT SOLWAY COLLEGE. MADE BY SIR C. NORWOOD. A pleasant function took place at Solway College this morning when Sir Charles Norwood, accompanied by Lady Norwood, made the presentation of a Union Jack to the Head Prefect. Miss June Hislop, from the Wellington Navy League, in honour of the College having enrolled over 100 pupils as members of the Navy League. The presentation was made in the College grounds, before the assembled pupils. Among the visitors present were Messrs R. Darroch and Gordon Reid (Wellington). Sir Chai'les Norwood was introduced by the Rev John Davie, and in the course of his remarks stated that the achievement was evidence of the work of the Principal (Mrs M. B. Thompson), and her assistants. He stressed the good work being done by the Navy’ and urged the girls to carry on with the work of the league, which was not encouragement to love war machinery, but the machinery of peace—the Navy. In a charming speech Miss June Hislop accepted the flag on behalf of the College, and called for three cheers for the Navy. Mrs Thompson expressed appreciation of Sir Charles’ fine address. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a happy function.
