FAT LAMB SEASON '' BUSY SCENES AT STATION. ("Times-Age” Special.) _l Now that the fat lamb season has be- ; gun the stall at the local station is being kept busy despatching trucks of ’ fat lambs to the various works. Yes--1 terday 2G trucks were sent away, mostly to Ngahauranga. On Monday next ’ some 60 trucks will leave, each con- “ taining about 80 lambs. The daily av- ’ erage of trucks sent away during the ’ fat lamb season is about 40. The great- ! est number of trucks sent in one day ■' last year was 98. > BOUND FOR CAMP i ; FAREWELL GATHERING. : On Wednesday evening about 60 ■ friends from Featherston and surrounding district gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs C. J. Nix, Tauherenikau, to bid farewell to Mr W. Fountain, who left for camp today. A very happy time was spent in dancing and music. After supper Mr Nix in a few well chosen words, presented Mr Fountain with a pipe and tobacco pouch. Mr Fountain suitably replied. Among those present were: Misses M. Nix. P. Nix. Shand (2), and Mr John Wilson, all of Wellington. Another Featherston resident. Mr Norman Neill, left today for camp. Prior io his departure he was presented wilh a wristlet watch by a well wisher. WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB MEETING OF STEWARDS. The monthly meeting of the Wairaj rapa Racing Club's stewards was held I yesterday, Mr J. W. Card presiding, i Others present were Messrs A. CampI bell Pearce. D. H. Riddiford, D. C. Collins. Roy Donald. E. D. Martin. Percy Tilson, J. F. Thompson, J. G. Donald, Gt J. Nix, and N. C. C. Shepherd (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr W. Howard Booth. A vote of condolence was passed to I the relatives of the late Mrs W. J. ] Martin and Mrs L. Abraham. It was reported that the receipts since the last meeting totalled £342 14s 2d. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £193 9s 7d. Mr W. R. Crawford, of Featherston, i wrote resigning his position as starter. It was resolved the resignation be accepted with regret, and to send him a letter of appreciation for his services during the past 30 years. Two resignations were accepted, and one new member elected. The Central District Signal Company were granted permission to bivouc at the racecourse during December and January. The following tenders were accepted for supplies for the New Year meeting:—No. 2 privilege. Wairarapa Ice Cream Company; meat, the Featherston Butchery; stores. R.M.O. store. It was resolved that soldiers and sailors, in uniform, be admitted free to the races at New Year. It was resolved that the membership of all those who go on active service, be kept alive on the books of the Club. PLUNKET SOCIETY < STRONG FINANCIAL POSITION ( — The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Rooms ] yesterday. Mrs J. G. McKenzie, presiding. Others present were: Mesdames I R. N. Barton. G. S. Sharp, V. Bergh. I J. G. Donald. F. M. Turner. J. R Mat- 1 thews. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Mesdames H. R. f Bloxam. E. M. Wakely. J. Willet, Arch Clark, and N. C. C. Shepherd. I The receipts since last meeting 1 amounted to £2 14s sd. and accounts amounting to £1 3s were passed for payment.
The credit balance at the bank and Post Office savings bank was £704 16s 2d. The Nurse's Report, which is as follows. was considered very satisfactory: Cases on books since work began. 849: babies under supervision. 69: proschool children. 36; new cases. 2; analysis of feeding, 1 naturally fed. 1 artificially fed; visits to rooms, adults, 44; babies, 43; pre-school children. 3; 90: visits to homes, new cases. 3. old cases, 43. 46; messages and phone calls. 16; miles travelled in car during the month. 595; districts visited. Featherston. South Featherston. Kaiwaiwai. Pukio, Kahutara. Western Lake. Martinborough. Pirinoa. Otaraia. Pirinoa. Dyervile. Lower Valley and Raumahunga. A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Mrs W. J. Martin and to Mrs F. C. Benton in the loss of her mother.
Christmas Party. There is to be a Parish Christmas Party in the Anzac Hall on Saturday night. In the early part of the evening about 80 children from all parts of the Parish are to present "The Christmas Story." a nativity play in nine scenes. The organist and choir from St. Matthew's Church. Masterton. will be present and assist. The organist. Mr Miller Hope, will give an organ recital for minutes.
