TURF NEWS AND NOTES

CURRENT TOPICS FROM STABLE AND COURSE Prospects for the Auckland Cup GOOD FIELD SHOULD FACE THE STARTER (BY "CARBINE.”) The fact that Yours Truly, the winner of the last New Zealand Cup, has been sold and gone to Australia has robbed the Auckland Cup of a certain amount of interest, but nevertheless the field is a good one, and should provide a keen struggle for supremacy. There are at the moment two Melbourne Cup winners, Wotan and Catalogue, in the chief Auckland race and while these two horses, in addition to Cheval de Volee, are stayers, there are others who can undoubtedly see the distance out. However, it is reported that Catalogue may not start. Of course when the final acceptances come out the field is sure to be reduced but there should still be a considerable number of good horses left to contest the Cup. At present the horses which are doing the best work on the track are Golden Sheila, Beaupartir, Llangollen, Floodtide, Round Up, Cheval de Volee, The Cardinal, and Catalogue. It is stated that Old Bill, who is definitely not to compete at Auckland, as well as Catalogue, may be reserved for the Wellington meeting.
