24-HOUR RIDE BY OPPERMAN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. MELBOURNE, December 5. Hubert Opperman today set a new cycling record for a 24-hour unpaced ride of 505? miles, breaking the previous record held by Cyril Heppleston, England, by 37.} miles. A feature of the ride was that he did not dismount once on the journey, which began at the South Australian border and ended at Bairnsdale. During the ride he also broke the Victorian and Australian 12-hour records of 264 miles. On completion of the ride Opperman said he regarded it as his greatest triumph, as the 24-hour record was the cycling blue ribbon.
