GUN CLUB ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual general meeting of the South Wairarapa Gun Club was held at the Lake Ferry, Mr G. Sutherland presiding over a good attendance. The chairman, referring to the annual balance sheet and report stated that the Club had had a very successful season, both from a shooting and a financial point of view. The income from matches and sales of cartridges, etc., totalled £155 Ils 3d, while the expenditure was £l3B 17s sd, leaving a credit balance of £22 18s in the bank. The club had material valued at £2O. Several big open shooting meetings had been held during the season, providing keen contests. Mr A. H. Warren had been successful in winning outright the Tisdall Cup and also in . winning the Kumenga Cup. The following officers were elected: —Tetron, Mr W. A. lorns; president, Mr P. S. Macdonald; vice-presidents, Messrs Brough, R. Buick, sen, G. Hall, H. Swanson and A. Warren; secretary, Mr P. S. Macdonald; treasurers, Messrs Thomas and Swanson; referee, Mr R. Buick, jnr; handicappers, Messrs Macdonald, R. Buick jun and S. Hall; trappers, Mr W. Boyens; ‘ committee, Messrs S. Mclntosh, Hall, T. Sargent, W. Boyens, R. Buick jun, G. Sutherland and A. Warren.
The subscription was again fixed at 5s for the season.
It was decided to hold the opening “shoot” on ’ December 16, when the first round of the Borough Cup will be fired. There will also be competitions for trophies. During this season the club in order to encourage young competitors has decided that nomination fees for all events be reduced to a minimum. It is hoped that this will greatly assist in encouraging shooting throughout the South Wairarapa"
SCHOOL COMMITTEE CHRISTMAS TREAT FOR CHILDREN. A meeting of the local school committee was held on Monday evening. There were present Messrs Mclntosh (chairman), G. Sutton, J. Carter and J. Duggan. An apoligy for absence was received from Mr J. Riwai. ■ It was decided to give the children a “treat” at breaking-up day. It was decided to inform the tennis club that it must purchase a net solely for the use of their own members. Alterations to Highway. Extensive alterations and muchneeded improvements are being made to the Pirinoa-Martinborough highway and when finished, it is understood, the work of tar sealing will be proceeded with. Personal Items. Miss Goldsbury, who has been relieving at the local school, has left for Wellington, and Miss Purnell has commenced her duties at the school. Mrs Murphy, Mt Bruce, is staying with her mother for a few days. A wedding of considerable interest will take place at the end of this month, when a member of a wellknown Maori family will be married to a resident of Feilding.
