Arctic King To Train Again. Arctic King, who broke down in tho rear tendon during the running of the New Zealand Cup. has made better progress than at first expected, and his owner-trainer. W. J. Wood, now has hopes of racing him again. He will shortly be spelled and will be brought back into training in time to be ready for next winter. A Disappointment. When Prince Quex, a half-brother by Lord Quex to Lady Pam, was sent over to Melbourne as a yearling, his breeder, Mr W. R. Kemball (formerly of Masterton) believed that he would prove the best horse he had ever bred or raced. However, though he had a brief patch of winning form among class horses as a. three-year-old, when his successes included the weight-for-age Melbourne Stakes, one mile, and Williamstown Stakes, one mile and a quarter, he did not come up to hopes. His subsequent form deteriorated, and, now six years old, he was sold by Mr Kemball in Melbourne recently for 180 guineas, his purchaser being the Chudley Park Pastoral Company, of Queensland. Big Tote Returns Expected. If recent totalisator turnovers arc any sort of a guide, big money will go through the machines at Christmas and New Year meetings, especially in the north. During the last three weeks the Avondale figures rose just on £24,000, Waikato had a record meeting and at Auckland over the weekend the turnover increase was over £2B 000. | Broken Winded. Early suspicions that. Valamito has become affected in the wind would now seem definite after his recent de- I feats. This is most unfortunate, for he I represented good class last season and' | al. six years should have been right for s al least two or three more seasons of t success. s FIXTURES.
