SPLENDID DISPLAY

CALVES AND LAMBS CHILDREN’S COMPETITIONS. JUDGED AT SOLWAY TODAY. The Wairarapa Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs demonstration held at the Solway Showgrounds today was most successful. Calf and fat lamb competitions attracted a large number of entries. The calves were judged by Mr D. C. Stuart, of Rangitumau, who stated that the animals were a very fine lot. The care and handling of the calves had been so 'good that judging was a difficult matter. The exhibits were strong in type and reflected great credit on the persons responsible. The fat lambs were judged by Mr T. Caverhill and were of a good class. The following awards were made:— Dairy type: Bernard Patrick (Te Whiti)’, diploma award, 1; Shirley Bradley (Te Whiti), second seal, 2; Jack Bradley (Te Whiti), diploma award, 3. y ‘~l-i Care and handling: Robert Miller (Kopuaranga), diploma award, 1; Lenna Rogers (Te Whiti), second seal, 2; Bruce Clark (Kopuaranga), third seal. 3; Joyce Rogers (Te Whiti), fourth seal, 4. Best fat lamb: Ivy Smith (Opaki), 1; Mavis Cottle (Kopuaranga), 2; Gwen Cottle (Kopuaranga), 3. Best whitefaced lamb: Peggy Laing (Kopuaranga) . The demonstration concluded with a talk on calf judging by Mr Stuart, who demonstrated the best .points of the calves shown.
