CARTERTON
GUN CLUB WEEKEND MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a good muster at the weekend shoot of the Carterton Gun Club and the shooting considering the high westerly wind that blew across the range was good in the 21 bird match. In the 12 bird shoot the velocity of the wind had lessened considerably, but the shooters were not getting the ."clays" clean. The meeting was very ably controlled by the club’s secretary. Mr J. V. Gustofson. and his committee. Mr A. McAllister was referee. Sixteen competitors fired in the first match, divided into A and E grade, five being in the former and eleven in the latter, for trophies of £1 Is each and sweepstake. The trap was controlled by Mr J. McKnight in his usual efficient manner. . The result of the match was as under: — A grade: N. Pressing (15), (19 birds with the first barrel, one with the second and a miss for his first shot), 20. 1; J. Minehan (14). 19. 2; C. Grey (18). 18; L. Smith (15), 18; W. E. Parry (16), 13. S grade, £1 Is trophy and sweepstake: W. Moroney (12), 18: R. Fuge (11). 18; R. Walker (11), 18; T. A. Brown (11), 16; R. Williams (12), 16: Allen (13). 16; G. Warrington (11). 15: A. Teal (11), 15: G. A. Vincent (11). 15: W. Wong (1.1).' 13; J. Crawford (11), 12. Moroney. Fuge and Walker having tied fired off for the prize, five shots each, after which first miss was to count cut. Walker and Fuge tied again‘and in the final shoot off Walker won. Twelve bird match: Fourteen competitors fired. J Crawford (11) and L. Smith (15) tieing with 10 breaks each and divided the sweepstake. The other shooters were: W. Moroney. 9 breaks; R. Williams. 9; J. Minehan, 9; T. A. Brown. 9; C. Grey, 8; N. Pressing, 8; A. Teal, 8; R. Fuge, 7; J. Warrington. 7; W. E. Parry, 7; A. McAllister, 6; G. A. Vincent. 4. Teal looked like a certainty but unfortunately missed his last 3 birds. Yankee shoot, 12 birds: C. Grey (18), 10; R. Williams (15), 10; W. E. Parry (18), 9. Jimcrack event: C. Grey, 7; W. Moroney and R. Williams, 6 each. BOWLING CHAMPION RINK GAMES. Champion rink games were carried a further stage on Saturday when the second round was played. Wet weather spoiled the afternoon, although the green played very well and some good games were played. Mesdames Geo and W. Hart, assisted by Miss B. Hart, provided and presided over afternoon tea for which they were accorded a hearty vote of thanks by acclamation. The games resulted as under: Hill, Underhill, Larsen, Harp (s) beat Lynch, Robertson. Beale. Tucker (s) 28/14; Boyne. Harris Martin Simmonds (s) beat Bea ven, Spooner, Stent, Sorensen (s) 21/20; McCarty, Chatwin, W. Hart, Whyte (s) beat Hawker, Matson. Bain. Barr (s) 18/17; G. Steven, Newbould, DeLacey. Hughan (s) beat Kilmister, Dudson (sub). A. Thompson. J. G. Stevens (s) 29/24; Aplin, Callender. G. Hart, Barber (s) beat Smith, Masson (sub). R. Thompson, Riggs (s) 27/17. A very pleasant time was enjoyed on the Carterton green at the weekend when a Carterton rink played a match against a rink from the Eastbourne Club, the home side being too good for the visitors. The result of the two games played is as follow:—A. Thompson, T. Harrington, C. Larsen, R. Thompson (s) (Carterton) beat J. Carsons. F. Young, T. Skerrett, B. Liddell 22/6. The second game ended in favour of Carterton by 19/5. The visitors were entertained to afternoon tea before leaving for home. Westerly Gale. Carterton and district experienced its worst wind storm for a very long ’time on Saturday evening and during the early hours of Sunday morning. Vegetable gardens and fruit orchards suffered. Bushels of fruit were strewn on the ground.
