TEACHER FINED
ON CHARGE OF ASSAULTING BOY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. GREYMOUTH, This Day. Stated by the police to have misdirected a blow, aimed to chastise a boy, Clifford Charles Bowater, sole teacher at the Kokiri School, was fined £2 in the Magistrate's Court this morning on a charge of assaulting James William Rooney, a nine-year-old pupil. Defendant, who admitted that he struck the pupil on the face, resulting in a black eye and bleeding nose, stated that he was under mental stress at the time.
