OBSCENE LANGUAGE
YOUTH CONVICTED AND FINED. A special sitting of the Masterton Magistrate's Court was held this morning when a youth. Raymond Victor Willoughby, appeared on a charge of using obscene language in Renall Street and of being on premises in Renall Street on Saturday night, without lawful excuse. Messrs L. J. Taylor and A. D. Low, J.’sP., were on the Bench. The police case was conducted by Senior-Sergeant G. A. Doggett, who stated that Willoughby had been warned several times. His trouble appeared to be excessive drink. The second charge was only a minor one. In evidence, Constable F. L. Diggle stated that Willoughby had used language of a particularly offensive nature. He made off into private property before lie could be arrested. There were several people about at tlie time of the offence. Knowing the identity of the man he had arrested him later in Queen Street. Willoughby, who pleaded guilty to tlie first charge, was convicted and lined £2 and costs, and on the second charge, to which he pleaded not guilty, was convicted and discharged. An application for the suppression of the name of the accused was refused.
