WORST OVER
MARLBOROUGH FLOODS RECEDING. SOME ROADS STILL BLOCKED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) BLENHEIM. This Day. The level of the Wairau River fell noticeably yesterday afternoon and last night, but road and rail communication with Picton is still blocked. Only large cars can negotiate the south highway to Riverlands, where the water is over the road for a considerable distance. The Nelson main highway is still affected by the Wakamarina River, at Canvastown, and the only route available to Nelson is via Tophouse. The flood waters in the Spring Creek and Tuamarina areas have receded. but many of the low-lying areas are still covered to a depth of several feet. With clearer weather in the back country and a cessation of rain in districts near Blenheim, there is every indication that the worst of the flooding is over.
