MOISE BOMBING

810 RUSSIAN SQUADRON RAIDS HELSINKI i MANY BUILDINGS DESTROYED. SEVERAL PLANES BROUGHT DOWN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) HELSINKI, December 1. A great squadron of Soviet bombers raided Helsinki at 1.15 p.m. The raid has already lasted for 90 minutes and is continuing. Several planes have been brought down. Smoke rising from various parts of the city indicates new fires. Many wooden buildings have been destroyed in the working class section. The Russians are reported to have occupied Petsamo, after fierce fighting, in the course of which Russian troops were landed by parachute. Most of the city is in flames. Russian warships are reported to be heavily bombarding the port, of Hanko. An earlier report states that fires from the incendiary bombs were still burning in Helsinki early this morning, but the Government officials remained. It is stated that no decision has yet been made to evacuate the capital. \ The correspondent of the British United Press reports that the Soviet fleet was visible from Helsinki this morning and later it disappeared over the horizon. The Foreign Office announced that the known casualties from the air raids are 40 dead and 126 wounded. The buildings burnt include the Ger-’ man Hindenburg School. “The Times” Helsinki correspondent says all yesterday's air attacks on Helsinki were launched from the Soviet’s recently-acquired bases in Estonia and other States, notably from Paldiski, which is only 20 minutes by air from Helsinki.
