GERMAN ASSETS
CONTROL MEASURES IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. November 30. Replying to questions in the House of Commons, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Simon, said, the German assets in Britain have not been seized by the Government but undei the Trading with the Enemy Customs Order. 1939. moneys which, but for the outbreak of war. would be payable te. or for the benefit of enemies have t< be paid to a custodian and certain orders vesting such property have beer made. Sir John said money paid to the custodian under order was placed to : special account at the Bank of Eng land. Releases had been made in spec ial cases where a mistake in pre-wai assignment or frustration of contrac' had been established, or where Germans resident in Britain who had returned to Germany just before the out break of war left behind funds for the purpose of discharging personal liabilities to British creditors.
