(By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N.. November 30. Narrow Win for Du Maurier. In the Manchester Handicap at Feilding yesterday Du Maurier and Kaiwaka fought out a very close finish. D:i Maurier led all the way, and, setting a very sound pace, was soon well clear of the others, who were headed by The Bigot, Kaiwaka, and Dainty Sue, then Charade and Mataroa, with Tidewaiter next, and Wotan well back, last. At the home turn Kaiwaka ran up second, and Wotan also became prominent. Kaiwaka headed Du Maurier at the last furlong, but Du Maurier over the last stretch drew away to secure a narrow win. Wotan was a fair third.

A Desperate Finish. At the Feilding Jockey Club's meeting yesterday Brunhild won the Flying Handicap in a desperate finish with Race Call. Brunhild led all the'way. In the straight Race Call challenged but Brunhild came again and just won. Old Bill put in a great run home on the fence to get a good third. Laughing Lass was prominent as they turned for home. Amigo, who finished fifth, looked very dangerous as they swung into the straight.

Outstanding Two-Yeai'-Oldc. Southland should produce two outstanding two-year-olds later this season. A colt by Nigger Minstrel from the speedy Tea Party lias shown exceptional ability as a member of F. W. Ellis's tepm. He was not brought in as early as others of his age but he has shown more speed than the majority. A two-year-old gelding at Riverton — by Philamor from Paigle. the dam of Peony Rose—has shown to advantage. He was sprinted down the straight al the Southland spring meeting and handled himself well. He is to appear at: Dunedin.

Another Placing. Balinavar added yet another placing to his credit when he ran second to Birthday Boy in the St Andrew's Handicap at Auckland. He has registered four seconds and a third from six starts. In his only unplaced effort, he stood on the mark in the Spring Handicap, at Auckland, and took no part in the race. Many Sires Represented. It is unusual to find to many sires' represented in two-year-old races, the progeny of no fewer than 18 being returned winners this season. Phaleron Bay and Iliad are represented with winners of three races. Safri. Leighton. Kincardine, Laughing Prince. Nightmarch, Solicitor General and Autopay, two wins each, while eight others have one win apiece including Beau Pere. whose only winning representative is Atreus. A Consistent Performer. Sebrof. winner of the Stanley Handicap, at Auckland, has been a most consistent performer this season. In ten starts he has scored two wins and foul seconds, while in his unplaced performances he has finished right up with the placed division. Flood Tide Looks Better. Flood Tide paraded looking slightly above himself in the Alison Cup. and. considering he suffered interference shortly after the start, he did well to finish seventh. He was produced again on Monday and. looking all the better for the race, and with the going to suit him. put in some telling work over the concluding stages to finish a good third to Birthday Boy and Balinavar in the St Andrew's Handicap. Flood Tide impressed as one of the most likely improvers seen out at the meeting and appealed as a definite prospect for the Auckland Cup.

Worth Remembering at Christmas. With the track conditions to suit him on Monday. Royal Appellant was supported with some confidence in the St Andrew's Handicap, at Auckland, but he failed to make a showing. Ivy Willonyx was another who failed. Although she did not. race badly, she was not quite up to the class. Valamito showed himself to be definitely affected in the wind, and he may find it difficult to win in future. Making his first appearance since his return from Sydney, the three-year-old Beau Repaire was produced in the St Andrew's Handicap. but any chance he had was settled when he lost ground at the start. He made up leeway over the concluding stages and the effort suggested that the half-brother to Royal Chief would be worth remembering at Christmas.

Pocket Edition of Sire. A four-year-old Nightmarch mare out of the Paper Money—Lava mare Molten, a half-sister to Hot Stuff and Traylavah and from the same family as Bon Reve, Awaken. Te Atiawa. Havering and others, Night Eruption is a pocket edition of her sire in appearance. and she adds another to the successes of horses out of Paper Money mares. She-was secured by Mrs L. C. Faith as a yearling for 40 guineas, but it was not till this season that she left maiden class. As her four wins have been worth only £390. she is still in hack class, but she will get a bit of weight now in the grade. In all her races this season, except her first, she has been handled by the Levin apprentice W. J. Stevens, who also won the open seven at Levin the previous week on Flying Acre.

Twenty-four-year-old Dam. Sweet Memory, who is now in her 24th year, has produced a filly foal by Salmagundi. Sweet. Memory is the dam of Nightcalm. Membo. Memories, Paladino and Remcmbo.

To Race at Trentham. Dark Flight was given an easy lime after racing at Riccarton, but he is back on the tracks again and will be got ready for the holiday meetings after which he will be taken to Trentham. He took no harm from his hard races at the Cup meeting. HIGH CASTE & READING AN INTERESTING COMPARISON.
