PIPE MUSIC

WAIRARAPA COLLEGE BAND. FINE PERFORMANCE GIVEN LAST NIGHT. An outstanding feature of the Wairarapa College annual demonstration held in the Assembly Hall last night was the magnificent performance by the Wairarapa College Pipe Band. The stirring skirl of the bagpipes made an immediate appeal. particularly to those of Scottish descent. The members of the band bore themselves well and the tartan made a brave showing against a black background. The programme opened with a selection comprising a slow march. “Loch Lcven." a quick march, “Delicia Chisholm," a strathspey, “Balmoral” and a reel, "Mrs McLeod of Rosay." In response to an ovation by the appreciative audience the band played as an encore the march "Captain Towse, V. Members of the band taking part were: Pipe-Major Murdo Mackenzie. Drum-Major D. Tooby. Drum-Sergeant W. Marchbank. Pipe-Sergeant A. Douglas, Pipe-Corporal R. Stuart. Pipers L. Pither. M. Stuart. D. Douglas, W. Dickel, and P. G. Whyte. Drummer A. Simpson, and side-drummers W. Rogers and J. Pauling. The band, which is fortunate in having New Zealand's premier piper, PipeMajor Murdo Mackenzie as its instructor. will make its appearance again at the public exhibition, tonight.
