Not to go to Australia.
Defaulter will not race in Australia in the autumn, but if all is well he will contest the Hazlett Gold Cup. a mile weight-for-age race at Wingatui. and the North Island Challenge Stakes, a seven furlongs weight-for-age race at Trentham. Since he returned from Australia Defaulter has been kept in light exercise and is doing well, though it will not be until he is put into serious training again that it will be known whether he is going to suffer any more from the leg trouble that was responsible for his being eased up in Australia in the spring. No decision has been made as to whether Royal Chief will return to Australia in the autumn. The Chief Ruler horse was given a rest after the New Zealand Cup meeting at which he won the Canterbury Cup.
