RUSSO=GERMAN PACT

“ONLY TEMPORARY.” AUSTRALIAN LEGISLATOR'S OPINION. “The British Empire and France have nothing to fear from the temporary friendship of Russia and Germany. Russia was ready to make an agreement with Germany because she feared the Nazis, and because she was desperately in need of machinery. Soon she must turn to Great Britain or the United States for her needs.” That statement was made by Mr George Wilson. M.L.A. for Dubbo. to the “Sydney Morning Herald" on his return from a world tour, in a United States liner. A few weeks before the war he was in Russia with Sir John Russell, director of soil research in Great Britain. He studied the Soviet economic position, and discussed international affairs with Soviet officials. “Russia today can give Germany little, if any. raw materials. All she produces, and more, she needs for her own use. On the other hand. I think it would be impossible for Germany to supply Russia with all the machinery she requires, now that Germany is at war. “The time must come soon when Russia must turn to Great Britain and the United States for machinery.” Mr Wilson added that Stalin had been associated long enough with Communism to learn it weaknesses, and in many directions he was leaning toward the capitalistic system.
