HIS EXCELLENCY’S ADDRESS

In the final speech of the day. his Excellency said it gave him great pleasure to be there to declare the new section of the home open. He was sorry that his wife was not able to be there owing to some war business which she had to transact in Wellington. Lord Galway went on to observe that he was glad to associate himself with what had already been said about the good work being done by homes, not only the one they were opening that day, but those of all denominations and churches. They were all doing an amazing amount of good work. They: brought the home atmosphere to children who were in many cases sadly in need of it. These establishments educated, trained and directed the young mind in the direction in which it should go. The young folk were trained, not only in the practical things of life, of which every child should have due knowledge in order that it might cope with later difficulties and problems, but also on the basis of the ideals of the church. They were trained so that, they might have their feet on the solid rock of faith. It appeared to him that in these days, when speed was regarded as the great essential, that in addition to that they wanted something cf stability. The training of these homes tended towards that and , assisted to give the children not only practical knowledge, but also that equipment of spiritual knowledge which would stand them in good stead in the future and help them to build the homes of tomorrow. He congratulated all who had been engaged in the work of enlarging this home and the new building which he would shortly inspect. He had seen the home at the Hutt and the good .work that was being carried out there. Offering his most cordial good wishes to all who had worked in organising, planning and building the Sedgley extension, his Excellency declared it officially open. (Applause).
