GOVERNOR-GENERAL OPENS EXTENSION

Speeches at Yesterday’s Ceremony ? LARGE AND REPRESENTATIVE GATHERING TRIBUTES TO GREAT SOCIAL ENTERPRISE In the presence of a large and representative gathering of clergymen, church members and others from all parts of the Wairarapa, and a number of visitors from Wellington, the building extensions which have increased largely the accommodation of Sedgley Home were opened officially yesterday by his Excellency the Governor-General. Following upon a number of speeches, a brief dedication service was conducted by the Vicar-General of the Wellington Diocese, the Ven Archdeacon W. Bullock. The numerous company was entertained at afternoon tea and many took the opportunity of inspecting the interior of the new buildings. These and the beautiful grounds of the home were much admired. Amongst those present, in addition to the Governor-General and his aide-de-camp. Captain Lord Dormer, were Archdeacon Bullock and Airs Bullock. Archdeacon Ansell, the Rev E. J. Rich and Mrs Rich, the Revs T. V. Pearson, D. MeNeur, J. Davie, F. J. Parker, C. Dobbs (Tinui), L. Ives (Eketahuna), Major Ericson (Whatman Home) and Mrs Erickson, the Mayor of Masterton (Mr T, Jordan) and Mrs Jordan, Mi- J. Robertson, M.P., and Mrs Robertson, Mr B, Roberts, M.P., Mr H. B. Gordon, chairman of the Wellington Diocesan Committee of the Anglican Boys’ Homes Society, and Mrs Gordon, the Master and Matron of Sedgley, Mr and Mrs H. A. Hibbs, and the boys now resident in the home. Mr Gordon, who presided, welcomed his Excellency and others present. He gave a brief outline of the history of the Anglican Boys’ Homes, strongly emphasising the value and importance of the work. Mr Gordon thanked all who had contributed to the support and development of the homes and begged that their help might be continued and if possible increased. Further financial assistance, he said, was greatly needed.
