I The Tauherenikau trained Autolite I was backed as if she had a mortgage on the concluding hack scurry at the Otaki meeting on Saturday and she had no difficulty in carrying out her part of the contract. She allowed Shin-1 ing Hours to lead her til nearing the I straight and then ran on to draw well! clear. She was eased up in the last 50 yards, enabling Lady Chat to run up! on the rails to within half a length of her. Not a Back Number. Queen of Song indicated that, she is 1 not a back number by winning the ! Tinwald Handicap at Ashhurst on Saturday in a comfortable manner. She had the race won as soon as she drew ’ up to Wine Card, and her success was ’ very popular. She won the same race two years ago. Swordstick would pro- 1 bably have caused the winner more J trouble bur. for his apprentice rider losing his whip early, and he was un ‘F able to do his mount full justice. I ! Taniwharau Breaks Back. J Falling at the first fence in .the Tiri Hurdle Race at the Auckland Racing . Club's meeting at Ellerslie on Satur- ‘ day, Taniwharau broke his back, and r had to be destroyed. His rider, J. P. ( McLaughlin, suffered concussion, and j was taken to the Auckland Hospital. An inquiry into the running of Sulci- , man in the Cheltenham Handicap was r held after the race. The stewards decided to take no action beyond severe- £ ly reprimanding the rider. E. Keesing. [ for injudicious riding. c Excellent Effort. Golden Sheila registered an excel- j lent performance in winning the Alli- t son Cup with 9.6 at the Auckland f meeting on Saturday. It was a splendid finish, with no fewer than six horses having winning chances a fur- . long from the post, from which point g Golden Sheila did best to win decisive- j ly from Royevrus, who came home e strongly after being sixth at the home j turn. Balinavar and Birthday Boy ran j ( good races. Ivy Willonyx shaped very | creditably. The straight-out favourite, Flood Tide, never actually looked like winning, and finished seventh. Good Win for Dorado. Dorado, the win favourite for the hurdles at the Otaki meeting on Saturday, was always fairly handy, and going to the front down the back the s( last time, he was never afterward headed. At the finish, however, he was all out to stall off a strong challenge 11 by Good Sun. Good Sun ran a greatly w improved race on the easier going, and but for badly bungling the fence by L the winning post at the end of hall a a mile, it is probable he would have won. q Silver River was a pool' third, failing to take some of his fences at all well. There \vas some unusual betting in . this race, Dorado, favourite straight c out, being only third choice for a place, while the fourth straightout favourite S! Ruenzori, was the place favourite. b
