CALF CLUBS
I’ WAIRARAPA COMPETITIONS. 1 JUDGING RESULTS. ("Times-Age” Special.) On Thursday and Friday further Calf Club competitions were held in ■ the Wairarapa with the following i results: — DYERVILLE SCHOOL. Four calves and 6 lambs were judg- , ed, the judges being—Calvos, Mr D. . Leach; lambs. Mr F. McLeod. i Calves, type: Molly McGillicuddy 1, I Arthur Bain 2, Peggy Mclntosh 3. Calves, care and handling: Molly , McGillicuddy 1, Arthur Bain 2, Peggy Mclntosh 3. Lambs: Ina Hancox 1, Brian McGillicuddy 2, Yvette Harris 3. Consolation: Marjorie Bain, David Molton. Mr D. Leach addressed the children on points of the calves shown, and Mr F. C. Brockett on training and handling in the show-ring. Mr - Garrity, chairman of the school committee, on behalf of the parents and committee, thanked the judge for his interest and assistance. HASTWELL SCHOOL. Eight calves were judged by Mr A. Henderson. Type: Hazel Nagel 1, Elva Dick 2, Basil Woodfield 3. Henry Thorby 4. Care and handling: Basil Woodfield 1, Henry Thorby 2, Dorothy Broadbent 3, Elva Dick 4. The chairman of the school committee, Mr Thorby, thanked Mr Henderson for judging. Mr Henderson had judged at the school for some six or seven years and Mr Thorby expressed the thanks of children and parents. The teacher in charge, Mr Dwyer, also spoke in similar terms. Mr Henderson In reply gave some very useful information to the pupils on calf rearing and commended the standard already attained. The pupils entertained the visitors with a short programme of songs and verse. ALFREDTON SCHOOL. (Judged by Mr L. Heckler). There were 4 calves and 18 lambs. Calves, type: Rita Payne 1. Don Napier 2. Care and handling: Madge Seymour 1, Eileen Napier 2. Lambs: Champion, John Payne. Best pet, Marjorie Godinagh. Best wool, Bruce Seymour 1, Rex Rolls 2, Charlie Leach 3. Mr Heckler's consolation prize: Stuart Napier 1, Geoff Rolls 2, Rex Rolls 3. The judge, Mr L. Heckler, spoke to those present on the value of the competitions and his pleasure at the quality of the stock shown. Mr F. C. Brockett gave the children some hints on handling and displaying their animals, and the head teacher. Mr Taverner, expressed the thanks of the school to those who assisted with the competition. KAKARIKI SCHOOL. Nine calves and 3 lambs were placed before the judge, Mr F. M. Goggin. Dairy type: Ray Wilsher 1. Olive Clapperton 2. Daphne Target! 3. Care and handling: May Target! 1. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies present, after which the prizes were presented by Mr Goggin. who also addressed the children, giving useful information with a sugar coating of humour. J
