RIVER TRAGEDY

BOY DROWNED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) BLENHEIM. November 26. Thomas Arthur Tetley, aged 13, son of Mr C. A. Tetley. Dillon's Point Road, was drowned when a canoe capsized in Opawa River on Saturday afternoon. Tetley was accompanied by two younger boys, and when one, losing his paddle, attempted to retrieve it, the canoe upset. The two younger boys clung to the craft, which drifted ashore, but Tetley struck out for the bank. When within a few feet of safety he was dragged under by his heavy boots and clothing. A girl, Ellen Priddle. aged 15. attracted by the cries for help of the other boys, dived in to attempt to rescue Tetley, but it was an adjacent resident, Mr B. L. O'Dwyer, who finally recovered the body. Artificial respiration was tried but failed.
