CARTERTON
BOWLING CONTESTS BOOTH CUP AND SHIELD. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton and Martinborough teams contested games in the Booth Cup and Shield on Saturday, the result being in favour of Carterton by 3 games to one in the Booth Cup and with another win in the Shield game. At Carterton the players were entertained at afternoon tea presided over by Mrs C. C. Callender assisted by Miss Welch, to whom a vote of thanks was accorded. At Martinborough the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea. The following are the results, Carterton mentioned first: — Booth Cup:—At Carterton: Harris, Boyne, R. Thompson, G. Hart (s) beat Cornfield, Feist, McNally, Pike (s), ’2l/20. This was an exciting game and the result rested on the last end. The 20th end left Martinborough 3 up, 20/17. When the skips went down to play the home side had 3 and Hart drew another. Pike elected to break the head with his first bowl and failed. He ,drove with his second bowl and missed badly. This did not end the excitement. Two shots were certain and a measure took place between the others with the result in favour of Carterton for two more by the narrowest of margins, the home team thus winning by one point. Kilmister, Callender, Martin. Barber (s) lost to Rose, Jolly, Madsen, Larsen <s), 21/14. At Martinborough: Steven, Underhill, Simmonds, Hughan (s) beat Jenkins. Skill. Knell. Boyd (s), 20/18. Smith, Bain, Beale, Sorensen (s) defeated Smith, Caseley, Yates, Williamson (s), 32/19. Shield: Newbould, Matson, Stent, Harp (s) beat Sadd, Cuthbert, Martin, Beveridge (s), 22/12. Friendly games: A Carterton rink, consisting of S. Hill. G. Steven. A. Thompson, W. Haft (s) journeyed to Martinborough and won from Thomas, , Spiers, Prior (s), 23/15. At Carterton: Clark, Lynch, Bea ven. Barr (s) defeated McCarty, Dudson, Spooner, DeLacey (s), 19/16. Champion singles: Robertson defeated Hawker, 23/15. Personal. Mr Frank Lindop, who was taken suddenly ill last week and was removed to his home at Petone, has much improved in health. Tennis. Owing to inclement weather all tennis games were postponed on Saturday,
