STERLING FUNDS

third period import LICENCES. INTIMATION BY RESERVE BANK. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Reserve Bank announces that a printed memorandum explaining the procedure to be employed in granting exchange authorities in respect of third period import licences has been distributed to the trading banks and may be obtained by holders of licences from the trading bank through which their applications for remittance are lodged. It will be appreciated that the ability of the Reserve Bank to provide for remittance as and when required by holders of licences will be dependent in a large measure on the extent to which the exchange requirements of the latter are spread over the first eight months of 1940. The co-operation of holders of such licences in making early application through their bankers is, therefore, invited in order that the Reserve Bank, when issuing exchange authorities, may have some idea of the requirements of licence-holders in general as to date of remittance.
