MEMORIAL PARK

USE BY SPORTS BODIES. CONFERENCE IN MASTERTON. A round-table conference of Trustees and representatives of sports bodies was held in the Masterton Trust Lands Trust Board room last night. Representatives present were Messrs J. A. Kennedy, B. M. Hurley (Memorial Park Lawn Tennis Club); Magill and Ramsay (Wairarapa Cricket Association); W. M. Sellar, E. Selby (Amateur S. Henson and McPhee (Wairarapa Rugby Union). Those present were unanimously of opinion that insufficient use was being made of the Memorial Park grounds. Every effort should be made to prepare the Park for summer sports as well as Rugby football in winter.. It was felt that the Park was too valuable a ground to be allowed to be idle during the summer months, when cricket and other summer sports were at a serious disadvantage for want of areas to successfully carry out their activities. The undertaking that sports bodies would contribute to the reconditioning costs by making full use of the facilities provided and paying rental, was given by representatives present. The decision reached by Trustees was that full consideration would be given to the matter of undertaking to prepare the park for summer sports' use at the next meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust.
