GREYTOWN

WOMEN’S DIVISION FINAL MEETING OF YEAR. ("Times-Age” Special.) A happy atmosphere prevailed at the final meeting of the Greytown branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union held in the Parish Hal: yesterday afternoon. Mrs, Beu, president of the branch, presided over a large attendance of members. Packets of used stamps were received from Mesdames Denny and Fairbrother. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs E. Richards who has found it necessary to enter the Greytown Hospital for further treatment. Mrs Wiggins expressed her thanks to members for kind wishes extended to her during her recent illness. The branch decided to continue to forward a weekly paper to the Buchanan Home for another twelve months. It was reported that there were now ten bedrooms available at the Rest Home at Awapuni. A letter was received from the Town Clerk asking if the Division would undertake to arrange the proposed dinner to early settlers. ‘After the matter had been fully discussed it was decided to obtain further particulars and if necessary the president intimated she would call a special meeting. The following musical programme was greatly appreciated: Mesdames H. Farley and H. G. Carter played two pianoforte duets; Mrs H. Farley sang two songs, "Rose of My Heart” and "Because": and Miss Isobel Wiggins recited "The Roads" and "Philosophy." A competition was won by Mrs Denny.

Afternoon tea was handed round by the hostesses, Mesdames J. Barnard, Bensemen, C. Maxton and A. Johnson. Before closing Mrs Beu wished members a happy Christmas and Bright New Year. She thanked Mrs Wiggins for her help as secretary during the year.

Mrs Wiggins thanked Mrs Beu for her remarks and wished the branch members a Merry Christmas. Members will go into recess until February. 1940. The singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem brought a happy meeting to a close. Personal Items. Mrs V. Kempton, Moroa, who has been an inmate of the Greytown Hospital, has sufficiently recovered to return home. Mr and Mrs G. M. Risk, Church Street, Timaru, are at present guests of Mr and Mrs H. Farley, West Street. Miss Jean. Bowden. Bridge Street. Wellington-, is the guest of Mrs H. Farley. West Street.
