DIRECTIONS FOR KNITTING. The following are directions for knitting a heelless sock, which can be wqrn back to front and so distribute •he wear. The directions were issued by the official Red Cross 'Queensland) during the Great War. Heavy 4-ply wool. No 12 needles. Cast on 24 stitches on three needles and knit in rib of 3 plain. 3 purl for five inches. Knit plain for five or six inches, according to length of foot, and finish off the toe in the usual way.
