CROQUET TOURNEY RESULTS OF SATURDAY’S PLAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Play was continued in the Wairarapa croquet tournament on Saturday with the following results: — Open championship.—Mrs Petrie beat Mrs Bassett. Ladies’ championship.—Mrs Polson beat Mrs Walker. Championship doubles. —Mesdames Polson and Bassett beat Mesdames Walker and Petrie; Mesdames Polson I and Bassett defeated Mesdames .Saun- | ders and Lyford. RIFLE SHOOTING COMPETITION FOR CUPS. The following were the scores in the Featherston Rifle Club’s competitions for the Nix and McTaggart cups: —
The scores of visiting Greytown shooters were: —T. Orr, 300yds 31, 500 yds 33, 600yds 30, total 94; G. Te Whaiti 34, 32, 27, 93; R. Ingley 30, 33, 29, 92; A. G. Rhodes 29, 32, 27, 88; H. Trotman 27, 35, 24, 86; E. Williams 22, 28, 26. 76. Next Saturday the Featherston Club will travel to Papawai to fire a match against Greytown at the 500 and 600 yards ranges. INTOXICATED MOTORIST MAORI FINED £lO. Reinga Matenga, who was arrested on Saturday, was charged in the Featherston S.M. Court this morning with having been intoxicated while in charge of a car. Messrs C. W. Ritchie and N. C. C. Shephard, J.’sP., were on the Bench. Defendant was fined £lO and his drivers’ licence was cancelled for the remainder of the current licensing year. Personal Items. Mr J. W. Card and Miss Esma Card were weekend visitors to Levin and were guests of Mrs H. McKay. Mr and Mrs S. Batchelor have returned to Featherston after a three weeks’ tour of the South Island. Projector Demonstration. Oh Friday afternoon Mr Percy Henderson, of the Wellington Training College, gave a demonstration of a projector at the local school and also one on Saturday evening before a large attendance of members of the Home and School Association and of the school committee. Several films were shown, amongst which were views of New Zealand, Australia and various other countries. It is understood that the Home, and Schoo] Association, which has sufficient funds in hand, will probably purchase one of the instruments for the school.
At the conclusion of the demonstration Mr J. W. Holland, chairman of the School Committee, thanked Mr Henderson for the very interesting display.
