WAIRARAPA P. & A. SOCIETY PROFIT OF £l3O ON RECENT FIXTURE. POSITION OF SECRETARY. (“Times- Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Pastoral and Agricultural Society was held in the A. and P. rooms, Carterton. this morning. The chairman. Mr R. R. Tilson, pre- | sided over a large attendance of members. Several apologies for absence were received. A supplementary estimate covering the financial position of the society was submitted by the secretary, Mr L. 11. Smart, and presented by the treaslurcT, Mr Coo. Brown. ] The recent annual show held by the society showed an estimated net profit of £l3O. compared with £lB9 last year. The night show showed a profit of £B6, as against £95 in 1938. Income and expenditure were both considerably reduced. the show being regarded as a good average one. Accounts for £1823 were passed. I Motions of sympathy were passed [with Messrs Ileaphy. V/. A. Tod (Otanc) and A. G. Golder (Ekctahuna), in their recent illnesses. Mi 1 L. 11. Smart tendered his resignation as secretary after a period of service extending over 38 years, but was urged to hold over his resignation until 12 months hence. A committee was appointed to confer with Mi' Smart regarding the matter. Eulogistic references were made by several speakers as to the valuable services rendered by Mr Smart over the past years. Mr Smart feelingly rejsponded. I A loiter of appreciation was received from the Prime Minister, thanking the society for its offer of the society's jgrounds and organisation if required in the event of an emergency. Mr A. R. Roberts, who for the past three years has won the Filter Cup for export lamb competition, rim in conjunction with the show, was presented] with the trophy and congratulated on i his fine effort.
