PATRIOTIC FUND
PURPOSE OF REGULATIONS PREVENTION OF WASTE & OVERLAPPING. SUPPORT BY ASSOCIATED CHAMBERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day.' “I am afraid that a lot of the criticism levelled against the regulations has been made under a misunderstanding. The object of the regulations has been to prevent waste and overlapping.” said Mr R. H. Nimmo (Wellington) when speaking of patriotic funds at the annual conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand in Wellington yesterday. Mr Nimmo moved: “That this conference urges all chambers of commerce and all members wholeheartedly to support the National Patriotic Fund Board and the various provincial patriotic councils in their effort to raise funds for approved patriotic purposes during the conduct of the present war, to the end that members of all armed forces shall not lack anything conducing to their welfare and comfort; and urges all members, when the occasion arises, to subscribe generously to patriotic funds for the relief of wounded and disabled members of the forces and the dependants of those men, and of the men who make the supreme sacrifice.” Mr Nimmo said it would be a wonderful gesture for the Associated Chambers to give a lead to the community. In reply to a question, he said the administration of the funds was almost entirely in the hands of the board. The motion was seconded by Mr A. Ely (Auckland) and carried. Mr Ely said the arrangement made by the Government was decidedly for the wellbeing of the community as a whole.
