RETURN OF THE FINNISH DELEGATION DISCUSSION IN HELSINKI. NEW BASIS FOR NEGOTIATION SOUGHT. The following Daventry reports have been rebroadcast by the New Zealand National stations: — The President of Finland (M Kyosti Kallio) conferred for 21 hours with the Finnish delegates who have just returned from Moscow. The Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary were also present and discussed the delegates’ report on the negotiations. The Foreign Minister said the negotiations had been carried out in a friendly way. There was no threat and no ultimatum and the talks had not been broken off. It would now be necessary to find another basis for continuing the negotiations. The suggestion that Finland’s financial position would bring the country to ruin was scouted. Her financial position was sound. Soviet troops are still exercising on the frontier and Finland has completed her fortifications. according to an American correspondent, WORK OF THE AIR FORCE. R.A.F. reconnaissance flights over Germany have been of capital importance, and have resulted in a mass of information being collected, said a French official commentator in a broadcast from Paris. Harbours and military objectives had been successfully photographed at low altitudes and German territory penetrated to a depth of 200 miles. All but a few planes had returned safely. The German reply to the Dutch and Belgian peace appeal is not now expected for two or three days. It is generally believed that the mediation offer will be rejected by Berlin, on the ground that Britain and France have set impossible conditions. Germans recently evacuated from Aix-la-Chapclle are being permitted to return. The Empire statesmen who have been visiting the Western Front for the past four days have now returned to London.
