An appeal for. scrap iron issued by controlling interests in the iron and steel industry brought in the first three weeks 45,000 tons which otherwise would have been wasted. This is equivalent to -seven or eight shiploads, without shipping risks and loss of foreign exchange. The campaign is expected to produce. in addition to scrap iron from normal sources, 250.000 tons, representing 500,000 tons of finished steel.
