A BRILLIANT EFFORT IN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. OUTSTANDING FEATURE OF MORNING PLAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. An outstanding feature of the play this morning in the New Zealand golf championships was a brilliant 31 for the first nine holes by Hornabrook in the third round of the amateur championships against Nash (who eliminated Pax Smith yesterday). The open champion turned for home to be 5 up. and went on to win 4 and 3. The third round of the professional championship and the second round of the New Zealand plate were also played this morning. The plate is competed for by amateurs eliminated in the first and second round of the championship. The present holder is Ewen (Hutt). The weather today is perfect. Amateur Championship. Third round: Hornabrook beat Nash. 4 and 3; R. Kitto beat Glading, 1 up; A Kitto beat Glendinning, 5 and 3; Silk beat Tunnell. 4 and 2. A. Kitto won convincingly in his match with Glendinning with “birdies” at the first, third, sixth and seventh Kitto went cut in 33—four up on bogey. Two bogey 4’s would have given him a fine round of 69. Glendinning played steady golf but could not match the brilliance of the young Wanganui player. Professional Championship. In the semi-final Murray bettered hi: 67 yesterday by one stroke to set : new record for the present tournament In the first eighteen Murray is leading Allbon 5 up; Stratmore is leading T. Galloway 1 up.
