TO MEET EMERGENCY
FULL ORGANISATION SET UP IN MASTERTON. MEETING OF THE JOINT COMMITTEES. Full preparations have been made in Masterton to meet any emergency' that is likely to arise from a natural cause such as an earthquake or any other agency. Yesterday a meeting of the Joint committees set up by' the Masterton Borough Council and the Masterton County Council was held under the chairmanship of the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, when all arrangements were completed for the setting into operation, if the occasion arose, of an organisation to meet any' possible contingency. Those present at yesterday's meeting, besides Mr Jordan, were Councillors A. D. Low and G. D. Wilson and the Town Clerk, Mi- G. T. O'Hara Smith, representing the Borough Council, and Mr R. E. Gordon Lee (chairman) and Councillors W. I. Armstrong and G. Moore and Mr J. C. D. Mackley (County Clerk). representing the County Council. Councillor W. Kemp (Borough Council) was unable to attend. The organisation and arrangements determined by the joint committees aie in accordance' with similar action taken in other centres in New Zealand and in line with the Government's direction.
