MANY CHARGES

INCLUDING ALLEGED THEFT OF MACHINE GUNS. ‘TWO YOUNG MEN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 13. Charged in the Magistrates’ Court today with the theft of two Hotchksis machine-guns, two tripod mountings, two spare barrels, and one military service rifle from the Drill Hall at Ashburton, two brothers, James Mervyn Philp, aged 20, and William Lewis Philp, aged 24, pleaded not guilty. There was also a long series of charges relating to the conversion of motor-cars, motor-cycles and trucks, and thefts and burglaries in Christchurch and Mid-Canterbury. Both accused were committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
