Special Military Force. Arthur Cameron Percy, of Riversdale, has enrolled for service in the Special Military Force. This is the first enlistment for a considerable time. Sale of Health Stamps. The canvass of business firms and householders in connection with the sale of Health Stamps being conducted by Mr F. Dean is meeting with great success. Mr Dean reports having disposed of £3O worth of stamps in about a week. Found At Last. The model power aeroplane which was lost on Labour Day when a race meeting was held at the Te Ore Ore grounds was located yesterday at Homebush, on the property ■ of Mr Champion. The model was slightly damaged. It belonged to Mr T. Thornley, of Wellington. Wrestling Thrills. Thrills aplenty excited the crowd in the Wellington Town Hall last nightwhen the wrestlers "Tiger” Atkins and George O'Brien had a return bout which turned out to be even better than the great display given the previous week. O'Brien won on points after each had secured a fall. Sunday Bowling Not Favoured. ' By a majority of more than four to one the canton s-owling Club, Auck-' land, has rejected a proposal to introduce Sunday play on its greens. The question was discussed at a special meeting of members. The meeting was convened at the request of 40 members of the club who had signed a petition in favour of Sunday bowling. Spring Flower Show. The Horticultural Society’s spring flower show will be held in the Municipal Hall, Masterton, on Wednesday, November 22. Entries in the sketching sections will close with the secretary today, whilst entries in other sections will close at noon on Tuesday, November 21. Entry fees for all exhibits, including the sketching classes, are: Members. 6d; non-members, 9d. “Raising .Money.” The economics of the school committee "social,” a familiar method of raising money, were discussed by Mr T. H. Langford at a meeting of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association. Mr Langford recalled a function which he had helped to organise in Winchester. "I took the trouble of going into the expenses,” he said. "I found that those who took part actually contributed about £4 in goods. We took about £3, and the committee thought it made £2 on the evening.” Inter-house Sports Day. Of particular interest at the present time the work of the Masterton Territorial unit, usually confined to the Drill Hall, will be brought into public notice on Inter-house Sports Day, when a special drill competition among platoons drawn from the local Territorial force, will be held. The competitions will embrace all musketry exercises. A challenge cup has. been donated for competition, and if the work done at the C Company parade last night can be taken as a guide, the display should be of an outstanding character. Centennial Exhibition. In the finest weather since opening day. many Wellington people flocked to the Centennial Exhibition last night. Crowds were large, not as large as last Saturday on Wednesday, but better than on any other clay so far. With the clear starlight tempting folk out of doors. Playland did brisk business, and the evening' was a very happy one. The Exhibition authorities estimated the visitors yesterday to number about 16,000. There were no major events at the Exhibition yesterday, but in the women’s section dancing and physical recreation demonstrations by Y.W.C.A. classes drew large audiences. Flax-growing Experiment. Experiments in the growing of pedigree flax are to be carried out by the Reserves Department of the Invercargill City Council. The superintendent of reserves (Mr B. Mansfield) reported to the council that he had obtained “fans" of flax in 10 varieties for trial purposes. An experimental area will be established on one of the Seaward Bush endowments, and the trials will be conducted on approved lines. "It is possible," slated the superintendent. "that this may prove an important and valuable sphere of activity ”
