FORTHCOMING DOMINION CONTEST. LARGE ENTRIES EXPECTED. The number of bands competing in the New Zealand pipe band contest at Athletic Park. Wellington, on January 26 and 27, would equal, and possibly exceed, the entries received last year, said the secretary at a meeting of the Dominion pipe band contest committee recently. Mr C. Stewart presided. Several bands had already booked accommodation, and others had intimated their intention of competing, said the secretary. The probable entrants were the Ruahino Highland Pipe Band, City of Christchurch Pipe Band, Wanganui Highland Pipe Band, Manawatu Society’s Pipe Band. Wellington Caledonian Society's Pipe Band, Hustings Scottish Society’s Pipe Band, Feilding Caledonian Pipe Band, Wairarapa College Pipe Band, Canterbury Caledonian Society's Pipe Band, Wellington Police Highland Pipe Band, Scottish Society of New Zealand’s Pipe Band, Pipes and Drums, Ist Battalion Wellington Regiment, City of Wellington Pipe Band and Scots College Pipe Band. The secretary was authorised to book the Town Hall for the evenings of January 26 and 27 for the test selections. It was resolved that a combined display by the Wellington pipe bands be held in Athletic Park on a Sunday in December.
