WINNERS OF PROFESSIONAL FOURSOME BRILLIANT TEAM WORK SEEN P. SMITH AND GLADING WIN AMATEUR TITLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Competitors at the New Zealand championship golf tournament on the Miramar links yesterday took part in the foursomes championships. This is a form of competition in which partners play alternate strokes, and team work counts. The weather was the best which has been experienced so far, but the links were turned right round through a light southerly wind succeeding the stiff northerly which prevailed last week. Holes which were reached in the open with a drive and a niblick pitch, yesterday required two full woods.

The feature of the day’s play was the brilliant team work of A. E. Guy (Poverty Bay) and J. Wein (Te Awamutu), who won the professional championship with brilliant rounds of' 70 and 69, seven strokes ahead of the runners-up, A. Murray (Auckland) and A. J. Shaw (Wellington).

The amateurs did not do so well. The honours were taken by P. Smith (Akarana), amateur champion of the Dominion, and' R. H. Glading, the Hamilton champion. This pair did rounds of 74 and 73,,which just beat the Hutt pair, W. B. Reilly and I. A. Ewen, by one stroke. It is interesting to note that the aggregate of Smith and Glading yesterday beat the figures returned by B. M. Silk (Wanganui) and J. P. Hornabrook (Masterton), in taking the amateur foursomes title at Dunedin last year by four strokes. The results were as follows:— Professional Championship. A. E. Guy and .1. Weir 70-69-139 A. Murray and A. J. Shaw .. 70-76-146 J. Lambic and A. 11. Dyke .. 76-75-151 N. H. Fuller and G. Watt .... 74-77-151 T. S. Galloway and James Galloway 78-74-152 W. Allbon and C. C. Clements 77-76-153 J. Though they went out in 35. they took 41 for the home journey, Shaw not being at anything like his best. The rest of the professionals were well behind. J. Lambic (Hastings) and A. H. Dyke (Maraenui) and N. H. Fuller (Christchurch) and G. Watt (Wanganui) coming next with aggregates of 151. AMATEUR CONTEST. The youthful pair P. Smith (Akarana) and R. H. Glading (Hamilton) in taking the amateur championship played steady golf. They covered the course in 74 in the morning and bettered this by a stroke in the afternoon. In the afternoon they went out in 35 but took 38 for the run in. Glading missed a 2-foot putt at the twelfth, but Smith made amends for this by sinking a 25footer at the sixteenth. The Hutt pair W. B. Reilly and I. A. Ewen were only one point behind, doing rounds of 75 and 73, but the third pair. G. A. Ussher (Timaru) and J. Shelly (Miramar), wore four strokes further back with rounds of 78 and 74. The best‘round done by the amateurs was the 72 in the afternoon by the Titirangi pair W. J. Davidge and R. B. Carr, who were both at the top of their form. Their 84 in the morning, however, put them out of the running.
