STRIPED MATERIAL
HOW TO WASH IT. A method of washing a brightlystriped frock is to soak it for about half an hour in a solution of one handful of salt to one gallon of water before washing is a good method but. to avoid dampness in the frock afterward, it is better to use a solution of half a packet of Epsom salts to a tub of water. Never boil or scald the article, or leave for long in water. Wash as fast as possible in luke-warm water, and iron immediately the article is dry enough. Always put the garment into water which has already been lathered, rather than rubbing in the soap. Another method is to put a handful of bran in a pan, covering with two pints of cold water, and simmering for half an hour. Strain and add cold water until hike warm, wash in this solution gently and quickly, and rinse in two changes of cold water, the addition of one teaspoon of vinegar to the rinsing water helping to brighten the colours.
