GUIDE CAMP

TAUHERENIKAU GATHERING TRAINING FOR OLDER GIRLS. At an emergency meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Guide Centennial Camp, which was held recently in Wellington, it was unanimously agreed that in view of the present state of national emergency, the camp should be .primarily a training camp for young guides. Rangers and older Guides rather than a holiday camp for Guides. Those attending camp must be 16 years or over, and have had at least a week’s previous experience under canvas in a Guide camp. The most that can be accepted for this training camp is 120. The camp will run in four groups of approximately 30. It is proposed to hold special training sessions in motor repair work, tuition generously being given by the Automobile Association; as well as the usual Guide activities —out-of-door cooking, hygiene and sanitation, and instruction in physical fitness. The camp will be staffed entirely by licenced Guide campers, and will be run in the same manner as any other Guide Camp. Those attending will sleep under canvas, and will be issued with the usual kit list. The camp will take place at Tauherenikau Racecourse from January 16 to 27, 1940.
