STOCK MARKET
EKETAHUNA SALE. LOWER PRICES FOR SHEEP. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile report as follows on their weekly sale at Eketahuna yesterday: We offered an average entry of cattle and sheep to a fair attendance of the public. Owing to the lack of outside competition the demand for hoggets and ewes and lambs was not up to expectations but nevertheless a good clearance was effected at prices slightly lower than late rates. The offering of cattle comprised mainly yearling and 2-year-old steers and heifers. Sales of these cattle, though not up to prices ruling at our fair last month, were on a par with prices realised at outside centres. A few pens of yearling Jcrscv heifers were more keenly sought after and for these a good sale resulted. Prices were as follow: — Sheep: Wether hoggets, 12s 6d to 13s lOd; fat b.f. 2-ths, 20s Id: fat and forward ewes. 7s 7d: ewes and lambs. 12s 6d to 13s 4d. Cattle: Yearling Jersey heifers. £2 Bs. £3 to £4; 2-yr Jersey heifers. £5; fat cows £6. £7 10s; yearling P.A. heifers. 30s. £2 ss: 2-ycar P.A. heifers. £2 Ils, £5: yearling Jersey bulls £3 to £5 17s 6d: 2-year Jersey bulls £5. £7 to £B.
