CENTRAL SCHOOL

COMMITTEE MEETING. PROPOSED RE-MODELLING OF BUILDINGS. The chairman, Mr J. MeV. Calwell presided over the monthly meeting oi the Central School committee last night. Also present were:—Messrs C. J. Braggins, A. V. Dixon, J. H. Cole, T A. Wesney and G. R. Beecroft. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Gibbs, Nicol and Newman.

The finance report was submitted and received and correspondence dealt with. The headmaster submitted a satisfactory report of attendance and progress and his general requirements were dealt with. The attendance at the main school was reported to be: Roll 537, average 498.4, percentage 92.8; Side school: Roll. 82. average 73.7, percentage, 90. The headmaster considered that the slight fall in percentage last week might have been due to the cold snap in the weather. The Education Board forwarded a form of specification for milk receptacles suggested for the consideration of the committee. The matter was considered and it was decided that the existing arrangements at the school were quite satisfactory without special receptacles being installed at present.

The Education Board forwarded particulars of visual aid projectors which might be procured through the board for the consideration of the committee, and it was decided that no action be taken, this matter being under consideration by the Parents’ Association. The secretary was directed to write Mr Pahl thanking him for his voluntary assistance in felling a big tree on the school grounds recently. The secretary was directed to write to the Education Board enquiring whether arrangements had been made for the work of remodelling the Central School to be carried out during the approaching term holidays, this work having been decided upon and grants made for the purpose, a considerable time ago. Messrs Colwell. Braggins and Beecroft were appointed visiting members for the month.
