The Eire Emergency Budget includes an increase of a shilling in the income tax for 1940, making the standard rate 6s 6d. The sugar tax is increased by j’d a pound. Excise beet sugar, spirits, and tobacco duties are also increased. Mr O’Kelly, introducing the Budget, said the increases were necessary owing to falling revenue. Measures had been adopted to preserve Eire’s neutrality.
