STATE VOTING

MUNICIPAL & OTHER ISSUES RESULTS IN UNITED STATES. REJECTION OF UTOPIAN SCHEMES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Day. 10.15 a.m.) NEW YORK. November 8. The Republicans claim that the municipal voting in Pennsylvania indicates that the State will overwhelmingly support the party’s 1940 Presidential candidate. Otherwise there is little national significance in the voting, in which public interest was centred in Utopian schemes.' California and Ohio both defeated the pension plan by heavy majorities. Mr Keen Johnson's election as Governor of Kentucky proved the continuing strength of the New Deal. New York State approved parimutuels (totalisators) on race tracks. San Francist'o re-elected Mayor Rossi. Salt Lake City elected Mr A. B. Jeenkins, the famous automobile racing driver, mayor by an unofficial majority of twelve votes.

PENSIONS NOT WANTED VOTING IN AMERICAN STATE ELECTIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright, NEW YORK. November 7. The Ohio election returns indicate that the pension plan for 50 dollars a month to unemployed over the age of 60 has been rejected by three to one. The sponsors said they would continue to fight. Scattered returns in California show a 2 to 1 majority against the pension plan for 130 dollars a month to unemployed over the age of 50. In the Kentucky gubernatorial election Mr Keen Johnson (Democrat) is leading by 2 to 1 and is apparently elected.
