LORRY OVERTURNS
ACCIDENT NEAR CARTERTON. TWO OCCUPANTS INJURED. An accident that might have been attended with more serious consequences occurred yesterday afternoon between 4.30 and 5 o'clock. It appears that a light lorry was proceeding to Masterton, carrying a drum of colac and the movement of the lorry shifted thedrum to the side of the conveyance with the result that in rounding the corner near Hughes Road the lorry became unbalanced and toppled over on its side. Both occupants, Messrs O’Shea and J. Kearns, who were thrown clear of the vehicle, were injured. Dr R. N. Campbell, of Carterton, was soon on the scene of the accident and attended to the injured men. It was found that Mr O’Shea had a cut across the back of one of his hands and was shaken badly. Mr Kearns suffered injuries to his ribs and from shock. Both were taken to Masterton Hospital for treatment.
The cab of the lorry was badly damaged and the wonder is that both men were not more seriously injured. Constable Watson and Inspector Nicolson proceeded to the scene of the accident.
