EKETAHUNA

SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL SOMETHING MORE SUITABLE REQUIRED. ("Times-Age" Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council the Chairman said that a letter had been received from the Returned Soldiers’ Association committee suggesting that some more suitable memorial be erected than the one at present in existence and at a proposed cost of £lOO. The council in the past had voted a sum of £l5 but this had never been lifted. The Borough Council had done the same and the mayor desired to know whether if his council paid its promised £l5 the County Council would do likewise. A resolution was passed agreeing to this course.

EKETAHUNA TENNIS CLUB OFFICIAL OPENING ON SATURDAY. The Eketahuna Tennis Club will officially open the season on Saturday afternoon. At the annual meeting of the club the following officers were elected:— Patron, Mrs B. Wimsett; president, Mr H. E. Greathead; vice-presidents. Messrs R. Dickson, D. Fraser, L. Christie; • secretary and club captain, Mr R. Quinlivan; ladies’ captain, Mrs Pickering, ladies committee, Misses Greathead. Fraser. Herbert, O'Regan and Dickson; men’s committee, Messrs Shale, Fraser, Quinlivan, Liardett. Though the club has lost a number of its prominent players during the past ear it is hoped, under the able guidance of a very keen president in Mr H. E. Greathead, and a very capable and enthusiastic secretary-cap-tain in Mr R. Quinlivan that the club will have a successful and enjoyable season. The ladies section of the club is also fortunate in having such an excellent captain as Miss Greathcad. whose enthusiasm, ability and popularity should produce results that will assist in making the club’s year one of the most sociable and instructive experienced by the club. Visitors from other Wairarapa clubs are expected at the opening of the courts at 3 p.m, on Saturday.
