FEATHERSTON
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY ARRANGEMENTS FOR SHOW. ("Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Horticultural Society was held on Monday night, Mr A. C. Pearce being in the chair. Others present were: Mesdames Ritchie, Tutbury, Hunter, J. W. Holland, J. G. McKenzie, J. B. Davis, G. Harkness, Arch. Clark, Rea, Misses Esma Card, Z. Tutbury, E. Wilkinson, Chisholm and Viles, Messrs Arch. Clark, Hayes and C. Rea. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Carter. Bloxam, Hayes, Lowell, Charles, Misses Eva Card, J. Matthews, H. Card and the Rev. R. S. Keenan.
A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Miss Card for her valuable services as steward since the inauguration of the society. Miss Card recently resigned as a steward but still remains a member of the committee. The official opening of the show by Sir H. Batterbee will take place at 2.45 p.m. on Thursday, November 16. Mr J. W. Card is to welcome the visitors. The society has decided to run twe judging competitions for a Christmas cake and a dinner. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
' OBITUARY MRS F. W. BURT. The death occurred yesterday morning of Mrs Effie Helena R. Burt, wife of Mr Francis W. Burt, Te Kohi, South Featherston. The late Mrs Burt was 70 years of age, and had lived in Featherston over -10 years. She was held in very high esteem. She had artistic tastes and took a keen interest in the Methodist Church. Mrs Burt leaves a widow and a family of nine—Mrs Jackson (Picton), Mrs F. Benton (Featherston), and Misses Edith and Roma Burl, Messrs Gordon. Sydney (Wellington), Harold, Islay and Norman Burt. The funeral will take place at the Featherston Cemetery on Thursday.
Class for Land Drill. Mr P. Wilton, South Featherston, began a class for land drill with the sth and 6th standard and High School children at the school on Tuesday evening'. These classes are to be held every week and will be followed by water drill.
Personal Items. Miss Paddy Nix, Tauherenikau, hataccepted a post at the Centennial Exhibition, and left for Wellington on Monday. Miss Maureen Nix is one of the hostesses at the Health Department Court. Mr James Thurston, of the Post and Telegraph staff, has received notice ol his transfer to Wellington.
