MINING DISPUTE

A conference of delegates from the combined mining unions carried a motion directing all engineers who are on strike on the northern coalfields to return to work immediately, “pending the completion of negotiations." The direction is expected to be confirmed by the Commonwealth Council of Amalgamated Engineering Unions when it meets this week.
The unions' conference decided to request the Federal Premier, Mi’ R. G. Menzies, to intervene in the dispute over hours which caused the strike.
