SCOUT ACTIVITIES

MO-KATOA CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE. BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Citizens' Scour Committee of the Mo Katoa Troop, held in the Scout Den, Dixon Street, the chairman, Mr W. L. Butler, presided over a record attendance. In his address, Mr Butler reported that twelve meetings of the committee were held during the year, all of which were well attended. The committee’s activities included the sponsoring of an art union to send boys to the proposed Jamboree but owing to the outbreak of war the Jamboree was cancelled. The proceeds of the art union would be devoted to the welfare of the boys in other directions. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —Patron Mr P. Borthkwick; chairman. Mr W. L. Butler; vice-chairman, Mr D. Ryan; secretary. Mr P. Doyle; committee. Messrs A. J. Curry, J. Kerslake, E. Camden, Ro.ss. Barclay, D. B. Curry; scoutmaster, Mr A. Allsop; cubmaster. Miss E. Shoosmith; auditor, Mr W Madden; delegate to district committee, Messrs W. L. Butler and P. Ryan. The Scoutmaster, in his annual report, stated that over forty parades were held, with an average attendance of 28 boys. Fourteen boys had completed their second-class tests and this year would qualify for first-class badges, two having already done so. Twenty-eight proficiency badges had been won and two Scouts had attained the King Scout badge. The troop leader had qualified and received the gold cord. He was also a first-class scouter and had . eighteen efficiency badges. Last Christmas the troop went on a bicycle tour. Experiences were broadcast from 2ZB and a soap box derby was held during the year. The second birthday celebration was a great success and the Scouts and Cubs gave an excellent concert. A camp was held on Labour Day weekend al Akura. Thanks were accorded to various helpers. The Cubmaster reported a roll number of 30, the average attendance being 80 per cent. The activities include a monthly church parade, attendance at various public gatherings, a field day, cricket match, birthday celebration, a concert and other events. Thanks were accorded to all helpers. The committee wish to thank all who have helped the troop throughout the year, particularly the Press.
